Hilltop Campground lies 6 miles southeast of Prescott, and about 0.5 miles south of Lynx Lake. A birdwatching paradise, there are numerous species of avians to keep you busy. Fishing includes rainbow trout, occasionally a brown trout, crappie, sunfish and largemouth bass. The campgroundnis in a mix of Ponderosa, oaks and manzanita.
There are 34 single and 3 double campsites with picnic tables, grills and fire rings. 23 single and 3 double sites are available for reservation. The remaining campsites are first come first served. Potable water is available. Garbage service is available. Quiet time is from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. No hookups are available.
Hilltop is a great place to camp in early summer and fall. Summertime can be a little warm as the temperatures can get into the high 90’s. Activities in the area include fishing at Lynx Lake, gold panning Lynx Creek north of the lake, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching and exploring the Bradshaw Mountains south of the campground or Granite Basin Recreation Area. Another fantastic place to get some photography in is at nearby Watson Lake. Not too far away is the historic town of Jerome for those seeking a little afternoon trip.
There is no swimming allowed in Lynx Lake. Boats are allowed but limited to electric motor only.
Directions
From downtown Prescott go east on Gurley street to Hwy 69. Go east on Hwy 69 to Walker road (FR 197 at the Costco). Travel south on Walker 3.4 miles to campground sign.
