Mather Campground is pretty much right in the thick of things on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Within walking distance of the south rim, Mather boasts 317 campsites, a shower and laundry facility as well as a general store, restaurants, gift shops and a nice visitors center. With 4.5 million people visiting the Grand Canyon, reservations are almost a must and can be made five months in advance. Reservations during the winter months (December – March) are not taken and the campground is on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a maximum of two vehicles, six people, three tents are allowed per site. Also, any vehicle towing another vehicle such as a pop-up tent trailer or a motor home towing a car is considered two vehicles.
If you are coming to the Grand Canyon without a reservation, try heading 26 miles east to Desert View Campground which is a first come first served campground.
During the winter months, the campground office is closed and online reservations are not available. Registration is first come first serve using the self-pay machine located at the campground office at the entrance to the campground. During the winter months, shared Hiker/biker campsites are not available and hiker/bikers must pay for an individual site which is $15.00.
Group sites are available for $50 per night with a maximum of 50 people and 3 vehicles per group site.
Note for those with pets
Pets are NOT ALLOWED below the canyon rim at any time. Pets are NOT permitted on the shuttle buses. Kennels are available in the South Rim Village.

Directions
From the south entrance follow the road for about three miles to the stoplights, turn left onto Center Road. Travel ¼ mile; turn right onto Market Plaza Road. The campground is about one mile down Market Plaza Road on the right. From the east entrance follow the road 25 miles, turn left at the “T” intersection onto South Entrance Road. Travel about ½ mile to the stoplights and turn right onto Center Road. Travel ¼ mile; turn right onto Market Plaza Road. The campground is about one mile down Market Plaza Road on the right.
General Notes

- Maximum of 6 people, 2 vehicles and 3 tents per site
- Accessible campsites available.
- Pets are allowed but must be leashed at all times and cannot be left unattended.
- Wood and charcoal fires permitted in campsite grills only
- no gathering of downed wood. Wood for campfires can be purchased at the general store.
- Laundry and showers are located near the entrance to the campground for a fee.
