Buffalo Crossing Campground

If you head south from Big Lake on FR 24 you will, after 12 miles run into Buffalo Crossing on the East Fork of the Black River. There are several campgrounds located on this stretch of the river and Buffalo Crossing is the most open of them all. Larger RV’s can easily fit, but there are no hookups or dump station. You will have to go to Big Lake to reach a dump station.  Make sure you bring your own shade if you plan on camping here. Campsites are very nicely spread out and are the largest campsites along the East Fork of the Black River.   Buffalo Crossing is a first come first served campground. Reservations are not accepted.

Fishing on the East Fork has its rewards. Buffalo Crossing is nestled in on the east side of the river. This is fly fishing heaven. Rainbow, brook and brown trout can be easily caught here. an 11 pound 7 ounce rainbow was caught here in 2003 just above Aspen Campground. Occasionally you might catch an Apache trout (noted by its green scales) or a smallmouth bass that might work its way up the river during the summer months.

The restrooms are the vault type and are handicap accessible.
